Hot Hawaiian Travel Deals: Luaus and Love

It’s been a while, but it appears the traditional Hawaiian luau is headed back to Waikiki Beach. The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa located near downtown Honolulu on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu recently announced that it is resurrecting the traditional local feast on the shores of the world’s most famous beach.

The “Waikiki Lu’au on the Lagoon” is being offered twice weekly, on Sundays and Wednesdays. It includes a lei greeting, traditional luau meal and a Polynesian entertainment extravaganza.

Beginning just before sunset guests will be greeted with live Hawaiian music and a flower lei on the resort’s Great Lawn. Prior to feasting on traditional local delicacies guests may participate in a variety of interactive games and activities such as a pineapple toss and coconut husking. Guests then make their way to the water to watch fishermen arrive aboard a canoe. The fishermen then teach guests to do the “hukilau” dance celebrating fishermen and their catch.

At sunset guests head to the massive buffet, which includes kalua pig, poi, lomi lomi salmon and cold selections such as island-style macaroni salad and seasonal fruit. Hot items include grilled hulihuli chicken and mahimahi with macadamia nuts. Dessert is also included and each guest will receive a soft drink; adults will also receive a tropical libation.

The cost is $95 for adults and $45 for children 4 to 12.

Meanwhile, on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is offering a unique “Love Your Family” summer program, which provides activities and entertainment for your entire clan.

Among the family-friendly activities you can participate in are chi gong and yoga on the pool deck, nature walks through the resort, and hula lessons. Sports enthusiasts can sign up for an introduction to surfing class or participate in golf scrambles. There are also arts-and-crafts offerings include a ti leaf lei-making class, sand art activity and coconut postcard decorating. The resort also offers a tropical mixology class and cooking classes.

The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is located 200 feet above Anini Beach on Kauai’s North Shore. It features 173 two-bedroom villas, four revitalizing pools, a two-story clubhouse, a restaurant and a general store.
