Kitchen cabinets, just as other aspects of the home, feature new trends and must have styles. If you are building a new home or just looking to do a remodel or a renovation, consider the following hot kitchen cabinet styles.
Plain and simple cabinets are becoming the most wanted look. I am glad I learned about this style, since our old cabinets are plain, and we were considering adding some trim. Smooth cabinet doors without any detail is the style that is becoming most popular. Door and draw pulls that are either absent or small and clean are being featured.
Incorporating metal or glass doors are desirable. You want to include a few, but not necessarily have metal or glass as your entire look, because it may get too overwhelming. One inexpensive way to capture this look is through IKEA cabinets. For smooth cabinet doors if you don’t currently have them, consider changing out the doors and drawers and leaving your cabinet frames alone. Refacing cabinets is a lot less expensive when compared to replacing entire cabinets.
As for material and stain, classic woods such as mahogany, walnut, cherry, teak, birch and maple continue to be desirable, but there are also new materials that are becoming hot. Green cabinets, that is eco-friendly cabinets, are in demand. Materials such as bamboo and palm wood, which can be re-grown quickly, are a durable alternative to hardwood. Wood that comes from a certified forest where the lands are managed in strict environmental and social standards, are also popular. Staying green, we will also be seeing a lot recycled or reclaimed materials forming new kitchen cabinets.
Finally, cabinets painted in white (low VOC paint of course) are forming a trend. I noticed this the other week myself while browsing through a home improvement store, and it is one consideration for our kitchen redo.
