Tomorrow is my favorite day of the year. No kidding. It’s not my birthday. It’s not my anniversary. It’s not the day I gave birth to my first child. It is the day we set our clocks back an hour, which means I get an extra hour of sleep. And, that (at least to me) is a gift you can’t put a price tag on.
Think about it; how many times during the course of a year do we wish out loud for more time? Tomorrow is the day most of us are granted an extra 60 minutes. Free time—literally. I’m smiling just thinking about it. I grew up in a state where daylight savings doesn’t exist, so, perhaps that explains my intense feelings about the topic. Still, plain and simple, tomorrow is a day I give thanks for the extra hour of shut-eye.
If you happen to be staying at a hotel tonight you get the added bonus of getting more bang for your buck–an extra hour in a paid room. And properties such as the Hilton Garden Inn are making the switch even easier. The hotel is adjusting their check out times to further accommodate guests. Instead of the standard noon check-out time, guests at participating Hilton Garden Inns don’t have to check out until 2 p.m. Sunday. That’s quite a gift considering most hotels have slowly started delaying check-IN time to 3 or 4 p.m. And more lodgings are adapting an 11 a.m. check-OUT time. (Don’t even get me started on that rip-off.)
But, as long as we are on the subject of hotel check-in and check- out times, did you know some lodgings are now charging guests who request late check-outs?
The Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C charges guests a $45 fee for leaving between 1 and 3 p.m. And if you think that’s outrageous consider how much it costs to extend your stay until 5 p.m.—a whopping $75.
Think of all the money guests will save when we fall back an hour.
