Household Products

Sometimes making your own supplies, or substituting everyday items for certain products, is not only a good way to save money or prevent waste, but is also a lot quicker and easier than running out to the store.

Get Creative

When over the counter medications were being changed to remove dangerous ingredients, we were told to get rid of older products. I dumped some effervescent tablets (like Alka Seltzer) into the toilet. They bubbled up and cleaned the toilet. At least they weren’t a complete waste of money! So, keep this in mind if you have a similar product that may be past the expiration date or something. You can also use these tablets to clean a coffee pot as long as you rinse it thoroughly afterward. Aspirin that has gone out of date can be added to flowers to keep them fresher longer. While you cannot ingest these medicines, you might be able to find other uses for them.

Make Your Own Wallpaper Stripper

Did you know that you can make your own wallpaper stripper? It costs less to make and it works. All you need is some fabric softener and a little water. Just pour liquid fabric softener into a clean spray bottle and add water until the solution comes through the sprayer easily. Remove the paper or vinyl layer of the wallpaper and spray the solution onto the adhesive part. Let it soak in for a few minutes and you should be able to remove the rest easily. For stubborn areas, try to work some of the solution under the paper layer. Let it sit for a few minutes and then try to pull it away.
