With the 100,000+ books that are published every year, and limited time in which to read, it can be a daunting task to narrow the selection down to books that will be enjoyable to you. I’d like to outline some ways you can make the process a little bit easier.
1. Talk to friends who have similar tastes. When you find something good, don’t you naturally want to tell others about it? Your friends are the same way. Ask them what they’ve read recently and if they think you’d like it. Their recommendations might not be right on the money, but I’d be willing to bet they’ll come pretty close. Your friends know you pretty well.
2. Talk to your librarian. In addition to knowing where in your library to find a book, the librarians can recommend books they think you’ll enjoy. Tell them about your reading preferences and see what they have to say.
3. Amazon is a treasure trove of reviews. If you’re curious about a book, put in the title, then click on one that comes up. As you scroll down, you’ll find not only the Publishers Weekly review, but reviews from people just like you and me who have read it. You’ll get a wide variety of opinions on each book.
4. There are a lot of blogs on the Internet that specifically focus on book reviews. If you do a search and put “book blogs” in the engine, you’ll get a great list. No lie – I checked it just now and it said there were 68,200,000 blogs about books. Just read the descriptions on your web browser until you find a blog that sounds like it covers your type of book.
5. And then you can always come here to Families.com and read Media Reviews. Maybe a little obvious, but you know, it just might work.
Not every book is going to be for every person, that’s for sure. We’re as different in our reading tastes as we are in our music and television tastes. But hopefully, by using these tips, you’ll be able to find some books that will be right up your alley.
