Would you pay $9000 for a wedding dress? To me that is an exorbitant for a dress for one day. Yet that is not considered all that expensive by some people. I guess it depends on what is important to you. $9000 was the price a friend’s daughter found the one she wanted for recently. It was too expensive for her. She could think of many other uses for that money. In the end she had her dress made overseas, an almost exact replica for under $500.
When people talked about watching the royal wedding, which I didn’t watch, the main focus seemed to be even if they weren’t going to watch it all, most everyone wanted to see what the dress was like. Haven’t we got it all wrong? Instead of focusing on that one day and the dress, and flowers and menu and reception and all the details shouldn’t couples be more worried about planning for their marriage than the wedding?
Maybe that night involve wedding preparation classes and talking through and discussing issues that could arise in the married life. It constantly amazes me how some people don’t even discuss things like whether they want children and how many or other such important issues. They just assume things will work out. A good marriage doesn’t just happen. It needs to be worked at and planned how to overcome difficulties.
If you go into marriage expecting there will be no difficulties because you are in love, you’ll be very quickly disappointed and brought back to reality. Even those who love each other deeply sometimes find it different adjusting to some aspects of married life.
Why spend so much time planning for that one day to be perfect and all the details go according to plan and not talk about the big issues and how the marriage will work? That makes no sense at all to me. But then I’m a person who believes the marriage is far more important than the wedding day and having it in the right church and having the right dress or guest list. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
