Would you spend $1 million dollars on your wedding? What about $2 million? The average wedding runs about $30,000 dollars currently in the United States, but if you had a $1 million to spend, would you do it? According to Forbes Magazine – there are more than 20 celebrity couples that have spent a million dollars or more on their nuptials and if that’s not enough to make your jaw drop, the sad part is – most of these marriages didn’t last.
Liza Minelli married producer David Gest back in 2002. Their wedding cost a whopping $3.5 million dollars and didn’t even survive the first year. I have to wonder, when you spend that much money on a wedding, is it because of the location, the caterers, the security, the 60 piece orchaestra or just outrageous expectations? Not to mention, do you carry those expectations into your daily ‘married life’?
Next up on the wow, I can’t believe they paid that much list is Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. The former Beatles star shelled out $3 million dollars for their wedding in June of 2002. Apparently the wedding was an Indian theme and even featured fireworks afterward. You can’t miss the couples ongoing divorce suit as Heather Mills recently demanded $100 million – talk about an investment payoff on a $3 million dollar ceremony.
In the at least they are still married category, we have Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. They spent about $2 million on their lavish ceremony that took place in a 15th century castle outside of Rome, Italy. They married in November of 2006 (and while it hasn’t quite been a full year) and still appear to be going strong. Hopefully they make it longer than Liza and David.
Christina Aguilera’s wedding cost about $2 million and Donald Trump (you’d think he would be higher on the list) spent about $1 million. Still – if you can get married for $30,000 – what on earth are they spending millions on? Especially considering the divorce rate in this tax bracket.
