Have you ever gotten to the embellishment part of creating your scrapbooking layout and wondered what you should include? Or have you ever finished embellishing your page and wondered if it was too much or does it need more?
Here are a few answers.
First and foremost, remember to keep the focus on the photographs. This is the most important part of a scrapbook layout, not the decorations or embellishments. So if you are wondering if it needs something else, yet you cannot place what it is, leave it along and if later you come back and it still bothers you, perhaps then you will know what it is missing.
Many scrapbookers forget that the photographs and the journaling are the most important part of their layouts. We tend to get carried away with the design aspect and putting all the latest and greatest embellishments onto our pages. This causes the page to look unbalanced or too heavy in areas.
I am a firm believer that simple is good. Simple is clean and uncluttered and very easy on the eyes. I know that not everyone likes the look of simple, and we are encouraged to try all the new products, but the look of simplicity is often the answer. Don’t succumb to the “white space” monster. White space is okay. And so is embellishing. But try to have a uniform look when you are placing the embellishments to that the focus is still the photo.
By no means am I discouraging you from embellishing your pages. Embellishments when added in the correct amount or balance, can create eye catching, pleasing layouts that simply allow the eyes to flow across the page and capture every detail.
I have been known to go simply embellishment crazy when I have only a one or two picture layout. It is these times that we often get the craziest with our embellishment placement, and all I want to do is remind you that simple is clean. Simple is fresh. And finally, white space is popular – so leave it there when you can.
