How Much More?

I believe I mentioned how when my oldest son broke his hand last October that no one in my husband’s family called to talk to him. We talked to the extended family and told them how upset he was that no one from that side of the family called him to check on him. Not one time during the 8 weeks that he was in a cast did his grandparents, aunt or uncle on my husband’s side called him to check on him. They all said they did not think it was important to call and check on him and that they did not mean to hurt him.

Last week my middle son George fell at school and dislocated his shoulder my husband called and told them that he was hurt thinking after this past conversation that they would show some compassion and want to talk to him about it. This week my oldest son Steve broke his hand again, granted this is the other hand but his hand just the same. My husband’s side of the family all knows he broke his hand on Tuesday and even though my husband has called them from the house they have not spoken to either of my sons yet.

Is this normal form grandparents or aunts and uncles? When any of my niece or nephews gets hurt we call them because we love them and care about them. Is it too much to ask for them to show my family the same courtesy and respect? What do you think? Am I just off my rocker thinking that this is not a normal way for a family to be? Should I just give up or should I keep trying to get them to see the light? How do we determine that enough is enough and that the kids do not need to be hurt anymore?

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
