I don’t own a pimped out smartphone that can take super clear shots, and then turn them into a mini music video. In fact, I don’t own a cell phone with picture-taking capabilities at all. I wish I did, but I don’t. Rather, I have remained loyal to my fully functional traditional digital camera… that does not allow me to call friends or family.
Typically, I don’t think twice about what I don’t have. Instead, I prefer to focus on what I do have and quell the green-eyed monster. However, after attending the first day of school with my first grader, I must admit that I was extremely tempted to run out and purchase a camera phone.
Does anyone own a standalone camera anymore?
I think I saw a total of three parents snapping shots of their students with a traditional camera. The rest were going bananas with their cell phones and smartphones, from the hallways to the classrooms, in front of the school’s marquee, even in front of lockers. Snap happy parents with camera phones were everywhere.
Millions of people, regardless of their photography skill level, have come to rely on small camera phones to capture spontaneous picture-taking moments. While these mini cameras are not on par with their digital camera counterparts, the technology is quickly advancing to make many of these mobile phones good enough for the casual shot.
Adding to the appeal is the fact that camera phone technology is advancing by the minute. These days you can find mobile phones with large touchscreen displays that not only help you set-up your shot, but also allow you to view your pictures without compromising your eyesight.
There are also a few smartphones that can be held horizontally, just like a real camera, and you press down on a shutter button right where it would normally be on a regular camera.
Do you have one?
Have you abandoned your traditional camera for a cell phone with picture-taking capabilities?
