How to Air Out Your House

Unpleasant odors in your home can be nothing short of embarrassing, especially when you hadn’t realized that they were there. Here are some practical steps that you can take to air our your home. Not only will the air be fresher, but it will be healthier too!

First of all, if you aren’t sure whether or not your home, well, smells, then step outside for a while. We can quickly get used to the smells in our home. Re-enter your home and take a few good sniffs. Is it fresh and smells like nothing? Or are there odors from cooking, pets, socks, etc?

While you can use air freshener to help combat the bad smells in your home, I’m not a big fan of them. Most of them leave your home smelling artificial with the underlaying smell still there under the surface. A better solution is to air out your home, and the mild weather of spring is just the time to do it.

To ventilate a room or your home, open your windows. Did you know that there is actually a smart way or technique to do this? Open both the top and the bottom of your window (standard double hung window). This will allow a circular air flow that will draw the smelly air outside and the fresh air inside making airing out of your home quicker and more efficient.

You can speed up the process even more by creating your own version of a wind tunnel. Don’t worry, you won’t be blown away, but the bad odors will. Open opposite windows or windows and doors in a room, This will cause air to come in on one side and out on the other side, completely refreshing the room. The stale air will carry all of the smells out with it.
