This may sound like an odd topic for a Fitness blog, but we talk about personal trainers, how to find a personal trainer and even looking at personal trainers online. When you work with a personal trainer, you are hiring them and you are paying them for their expertise and their time. You have the right to want and expect the best. On the other hand, your trainer has the right to expect some things from you. So let’s talk about the ways you can be a good client and help the two of you get the most from your work out time and sessions.
- Be Prompt – Whether you are meeting your personal trainer at the gym or at your house (yes personal trainers do make house calls) then it’s important that you be there on time and ready to go. You should never make your trainer wait. Remember, the time you are burning you are paying for and it’s unfair to both of you to create a situation that has your trainer running late to their next appointment.
- Avoid Whining – Your trainer is there to help boost your ego and to motivate you, but the last thing anyone wants to deal with is a constant whiner. Be honest in your personal assessment and enjoy training as much as possible – your positive mind set will help your physical well-being as well as your training time
- Respect the Professional Relationship – Remember, your trainer has a business and you have a business relationship with each other. Business relationships require prompt payment and respect – you and your trainer can become friends, but don’t let that lead you to believe they can wait on payment or listen to all of your personal problems.
- Forward Thinking – Your trainer will be pleased if you schedule your sessions in advance and give them notice of when you will be on vacation, out of town or unavailable for a normally scheduled session. It’s important to remember that when you think ahead, you are giving both of you time to plan accordingly.
