How to Find Lost Money

You may have money that you don’t even know about just sitting there waiting to be claimed. If you are feeling a financial crunch or just want a little spending money (or a lot in some cases), trying looking hard for money that you may already own!

Unclaimed Accounts

Do you know that you might have some unclaimed bank accounts, safe-deposit stuff, un-cashed checks, accruing dividends, refunds from utilities, insurance policies or other sources of income? Many Americans do. You can do a search to find this hidden treasure. In order to claim your money and assets, you’ll need to prove that you are who you say you are with official documentation, such as a birth certificate.

Remember when you are looking for your money to also search under your maiden name or any other names that you might have been known under.

There are several websites out there that will help you find your lost money and assets. One of them is missinmoney.com. Remember that it shouldn’t cost you anything to claim your money, other than expenses you might incur faxing or mailing forms, etc.

Around the House

In the middle of our goal for paying off our car and eliminating the debt of a car payment, we pulled out all of the stops, including gathering up any loose or collected change that we could find. We wound up with several baby wipe containers filled with change and brought them to the local branch of our bank.

After we were done, we wound up with more than $500 in extra money. We deposited in our bank account and then used it toward our debt payment goal.

So many people just toss away change, but you can see that even a little bit of change can add up over time. Go on a treasure hunt in your own home. Not only may you find a lot of change, but you may also find un-cashed checks, gift cards or other monetary assets that you can put to good use.
