How To Find The Best Fall and Winter Sales on Food and Save Money

Finding sales is an art for more frugal living experts. Discovering the best time to purchase items, and save the most money, is pure frugal genius. But not everyone has time to do that, so I’ve made it a little easier for you.

Here is a great breakdown of what foods are usually found on sale during the Fall and Winter months.

September

September is the first month of Fall/Autumn. Apples are in abundance, and can be found for pennies on the dollar at fruit stands and other locations. Canned goods are also lower during this month, in preparation for the new shipments for the cold months.

October

The month for pumpkins and squash, as well as sweet potatoes and yams. Stock up and get ready for next month. Proper storage can prolong the life of these items. You can also find great deals on cranberries.

November

The last month of fall brings excellent deals on Turkey in preparation for Thanksgiving feasts. The week following Thanksgiving finds many excellent deals per pound. If you have an extra freezer, stock up now! Other great deals this month are found on sweet potatoes, yams and candy. Halloween is the end of October and all the leftover candy goes on sale the first few days of November!

December

Finishing out the entire year, December doesn’t bring us many deals. Right before the Christmas holiday, many items go on sale for all that cooking. Watch for deals and specials, on items you use frequently, not just for holiday cooking. You can also find great deals on apples and oranges.

January

January is a terrific time to stock up on Turkey. After the big Christmas boom hits, there is always tons leftover, and the supermarkets are eager to get rid of it, so they offer it for considerably less.
Also, January is a great time to stock up on apples, pears, oranges and grapefruits.

February

February brings great sales on candy and chocolate, due to the holiday. Valentine’s Day fills the aisles with loads of candy, sweets and chocolate. You can usually find these items on sale during the following weeks.
