How to Get a Freezer for Free

Having a separate freezer can be a lifesaver in your home. It gives you the ability to be able to stock up on inexpensive ingredients when they are on sale, the ability to buy meat in bulk and save money that way, and the ability to cook ahead and fill that freezer with freezer meals.

Having a stockpile of freezer meals means that you are less tempted to eat out and can get through tough or busy times without having to increase the money that you spend on food.

I personally think that a good freezer is worth its price, but it is worth it even more when you can get one for free. Here are some ways that you can score your own freezer with no money needed!

Before you get started down this road, make sure that you have the means and the muscle to get your new freezer home. When you get one for free, you probably won’t be getting delivery with it. Find a truck and a couple of friends, if needed.

Next, keep an eye out for people who are moving a distance and people who are upgrading their kitchen or home. These are the kind of opportunities that you want. Many times, these families will be happy to give you a freezer for free, since it means that they don’t have to deal with the hassle and the expense of getting rid of it themselves when they are in a crunch.

Ask your friends and family to keep an eye out for such opportunities, and join your local freecycle group as well. There are often postings offering working freezers free to anyone who wants to come pick them up.

Visit estate sales and moving sales and ask if they have a freezer. Again, they may let you have it for free if you are ready to take it home that day.
