How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are an unfortunate, but normal part of having a baby. Some women are more prone to the marks than others. The elasticity of the skin, family history and ethnicity all play a role in whether or not you will have stretch marks.

There are some creams on the market that claim to fade stretch marks. These contain ingredients such as vitamin E, cocoa butter and collagen. The results are questionable. A few may fade them a bit, but it is unlikely that any cream will completely eliminate stretch marks.

These creams are most useful for preventing stretch marks. There is some evidence that this may work for some women, depending on skin type and the amount of weight gain during pregnancy. It is much easier to prevent the marks than to try to get rid of them later.

There are a few options in permanent stretch mark removal. A few different laser procedures claim to permanently remove stretch marks. Laser treatments are generally done by a dermatologist.

The effectiveness of these procedures depends on a few factors. Some skin types respond better to laser treatments than others. The amount of marks and the color of the marks will impact the results. Darker stretch marks are more difficult to treat than partially faded marks.

A tummy tuck is a fool proof solution to stretch marks and the post baby belly. The excess skin below the belly button is removed and the stretch marks go with it. It isn’t only celebrities that are having this done. This extreme solution is becoming increasingly popular.

If all else fails, you can always cover the marks. Several companies sell stretch mark cover up creams. Basically, they work like cover up for the face. The products come in a variety of colors to match every skin tone. Some contain moisturizing ingredients that claim to help with fading.
