How to Give Your Carpet New Life

With the summer sunlight streaming in to your home, is your carpet looking, well, a little old? Don’t spend hundreds or even thousands on new carpet. Instead, try the following tips to give your carpet some new life.

Rearrange the Furniture

Carpet can get worn spots from all of that traffic. Change up the traffic patterns and you may just be able hide those matted or worn spots and reveal fresh new carpet that was previously hidden by your furniture. It makes good sense to change your furniture every so often anyway. Creating new traffic patterns will extend the life of your carpet.

Remove Carpet Dents

All of that furniture moving around can leave dents in the carpet. Sometimes you can remove those dents by strong vacuuming, but most of the time even this doesn’t work, and you are left with square or round indents in the carpet that are unsightly. Try this quick trick. Grab an ice cube and put it in the dent. As the ice cube melts, the fibers in the carpet will absorb the water. This will make them expand. Simply blot up the extra with a white towel or cloth, and then vacuum to realign the fibers.

Clean It

A good steam clean not only removes surface stains, but it can also remove deep down dirt and odors to freshen not only the carpet but the whole room. You will be amazed at the amount of dirt that will come out of your carpet, even after a short time between cleanings. Make sure to check your manufacturer’s information for the carpet for care instructions. If your carpet is coated with a stain guard, then you may need to use a special cleaner. Some carpet warranties can also be voided after cleaning.

When you are done with these tips, enjoy your bright, new carpet!
