Ready to try something a little bit different this Thanksgiving? One great way to do it is by choosing to have a vegetarian Thanksgiving, It is a nice way to make your vegetarian relatives feel welcome on a holiday that is typically focused on turkey.

Mashed potatoes are a common addition to a Thanksgiving dinner. There are plenty of ways to make them, and typical mashed potato recipes include milk and butter. Feel free to add garlic, or cheese, or extra butter. You may want to make more mashed potatoes than you think you will need, so as not to run out.

These are just some suggestions for a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal. Keep in mind that some of your guests might have celiac disease or cannot digest gluten. It may feel awkward to ask people about their food allergies. Do it anyway. You want your guest to enjoy the meal, and not be sickened by it due to allergic reactions.

Guests who are vegan are going to want to avoid animal products. That includes milk, butter, cheese and eggs. Consider using non-dairy milk in the mashed potatoes, and look for a vegan can of “cream” of mushroom soup for the green bean casserole.

Another great idea is to encourage your guests to bring a dish with them. It ensures that guests with limited dietary choices will definitely have something that is safe for them to eat.
