Well the nativity scene is up right in a prominent place in the hall near the front door where anyone who comes can see it. The parcel man was the first visitor to see it.
Then the lights went on the front window. The blue lights look like a crown around the bell and the star and the gold lights are arranged in a pattern around the bottom. It looks very pretty. The wreath is on the front door and baskets of pine cones and tinsel are scattered around several rooms.
All we need now is the Christmas tree which we will buy fresh this week. Our other tree is already up. Why two trees? One is a card tree. People always have trouble knowing how to display Christmas cards. This is our solution.
How to make a card tree.
First, you need to find one or two large tree branches without leaves. Put them in a pot of soil or sand. We used the same branch from last year. Mick sprayed it to kill any bugs that had taken up residence while it was outside.
If you like, spray the branches silver or gold or white. Black could also look interesting. We decided to leave ours natural weathered wood. The cards which have been coming in brighten it up.
Our branch sits in a pot of soil. The top of our soil is decorated with green and silver tinsel.
To attach cards, close the card and using a hole punch make a hole in each card at the top. For long card you might need two holes. Then run fishing line through the holes as it ends up almost invisible and tie the cards on the tree. It occurred to me though that this could be even another use for Mary Ann’s dental floss instead.
Over the week our card tree has collected more cards. It’s starting to look very festive.
Check back tomorrow when I should have worked out how to put a photo of it up for you to see.
Sorry everyone, couldn’t get the photo to work. But you should get the idea from the instructions.
