With proper care, you can make the things that you own last longer. Here are some practical tips.
Rugs, Carpeting and flooring
Vacuum your carpeting and rugs frequently. This will prevent the dirt and grime from matting down the carpet. The same goes for vinyl and wood flooring. Bits of grit can scratch the surfaces of your floor.
Clothing
Line dry or dry flat whenever possible. You know all of that lint that comes off of your clothes in the dryer? It is parts of your fabric. You don’t get lint when you line dry. If you don’t like the way clothing feels right off of the line, start it in the dryer until it is damp only. Then line dry it the rest of the way. You’ll also prevent shrinking.
Automobiles and Homes
Regular maintenance and service will keep your vehicles running smoothly and prevent more expensive problems later. The same goes for your house. A small leak in your roof could turn into a disaster that ranges from water spots and mold to a complete collapse. The better you regularly inspect and maintain your most valuable property, the less you will spend in the long run.
Batteries for Electronics
Follow manufacturer guidelines for any electronics that use rechargeable batteries. Some batteries have memory and will wear out more quickly if not properly drained between charges, while other batteries don’t have this issue.
Bar Soap
Let your bar soap dry out a bit on the counter for a week or two before using it. This will make the bar soap last longer.
Cell Phones and Touch Devices
Keep your cell phones warm and away from cold, which may rain the battery more quickly. Cold may also affect the touch screen. Also keep your phone away from the summer heat or direct sunlight. You could ruin it by just leaving it in the car for a few hours on a hot day.
