A few months ago I bought some miniature magnetic file folders. I stuck them on the fridge. They’ve been great for holding box tops and pizza coupons. I wanted some more for my office, but the store isn’t carrying them anymore. So I figured out to make my own!
Start with a sturdy piece of 8 ½” x 11” paper. You can see my pattern below. The dotted lines are for folding once you’ve cut the pattern out.
Your piece of paper should look like this. On the right side of the paper, I’ve gone ahead and done three vertical accordion folds.
Fold the other side, and fold the top of the folder down across the bottom. It should look like this.
Put glue on the top thin folded edge, then press the bottom up to the top side. You may want to trim the tab of the folder. Glue a thin magnet on the back. I like to use those advertising magnets that come in the mail. It’s a much better use than just throwing them away.
These are great for keeping track of all those little papers that seem to get lost in my kitchen. They are fun place to leave notes for each other, and I think they’d make cute gifts for friends too. I’m even thinking about turning some into a job jar, chore chart kind of a thing.
If you are making these tiny folders with children, they may need some help with the measuring. This is a great easy craft for introducing measurements. If you are going to make a lot of these I would go ahead and make your own pattern so that the kids can trace onto their papers. It goes a lot faster.
