How to Make Your Home More Earth Friendly

earth friendly There are simple things that you can do in your home to make it more Earth friendly. Make a few changes or a complete overhaul. Either way, you will be making an impact that can affect future generations.

Speaking of future generations, a lot of these ideas are great for kids. Assign children appropriate earth-friendly tasks around your home. Not only will they learn a great lesson about being environmentally responsible, but they will also get a kick out of being in charge.

Purchase and place reusable shopping bags in the front hall closet, so you can grab them on the way to shopping. Always forgetting those bags? Store some in the car. Don’t forget to add at least one insulated bag for carting home the frozen stuff.

Fill reusable water bottles with tap water instead of purchasing bottled water. Invest in a faucet or pitcher filter if you must and look for reusable bottles that are free of the chemical BPA for your health.

Fix the water leaks around your home. Right now, you could be wasting as much as seven gallons of water with each flush, if your toilet leaks. Even little drips add up in volume quickly.

Install a high efficiency shower head. This can reduce your water consumption by gallons and gallons. It will also have the added effect of reducing the cost you currently pay to heat your water.

Install dimmer switches around your home, and you’ll use less electricity. Worried about dimmers and CFLs or LEDs? Not to worry, most CFLs and many LEDs will work nicely with dimmers, just be sure to check the information on the box before you purchase the bulbs.

Find alternate forms of transportation. Could you walk or bike to work or school at least once a week? No, map out a strategy to combine errands or make an effort to carpool to work or kids activities.
