Every coupon clipper needs some sort of coupon organization. Otherwise, you may miss out on using the best coupons before they expire. There are many different ways to organize your coupons, and I’ve tried a few different methods over the years. How do you organize them?
The Clip and Store
When I first started clipping coupons this is the method I used. I would go through each Sunday insert and clip only the coupons that my family would use. Then I would organize these coupons into a coupon holder. It was an envelope-sized bag that had paper separators to divide the different categories of groceries.
This method works well because you can pass on any coupons that you can’t use to others by gifting or trading. You coupons are very portable, too, so if you spot an unadvertised deal in a store or remembered something else on your list, you could pull out an appropriate coupon to use.
The Insert File
These days, I have a different approach to organizing my coupons. I use folders and place each week’s set of coupons as whole inserts into their own folder. I then date the folder and put them in date order. One folder is labeled miscellaneous coupons for those times that I find other coupon sources, such as peelies or catalinas or printed coupons.
Because so many of us are posting coupon match ups online, it is easier to keep the entire inserts together by date. This is because we all tend to refer to the source of the coupons by the name of the insert and the date it was published. It also saves times, since I am only clipping coupons as I use them. It is also easier to toss old coupons, because a quick browse through the entire insert lets me know if they have expired.
