How to Organize Your Purse

At a management seminar once, all of the women were asked to pass their purse to the woman on the left who would look in it (it was an all women meeting). You could see the horror fly across the faces of each women present.

When asked why the exercise made the women so uncomfortable, most admitted that rather than being embarrassed about the contents of their purses, they were embarrassed to reveal how messy and disorganized they were.

Of course, there was one “perfect” soul, bless her heart, whose purse was neat and compartmentalized, but chances are that she is busy working on world peace instead of reading this blog.

Okay, so what about the rest of us?

I found that the only way to keep a purse organized is to take a few minutes each day to go through it. No matter how many compartments or how big or small your purse, it will quickly fill up with stuff: pens, paper, ticket stubs, shredded tissues, loose change, something unidentifiable but sticky, receipts and more.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Choose time of day that you can fit into your routine. Maybe it is the last thing you do before bed, when you get your clothes ready for the next day. Maybe it is while you are having your morning coffee or sitting quietly while your toddler goes down for his nap.

Remove anything that you won’t need for that day or the next day. Don’t worry, you can always put it back later if you really need to do that. File any paper or receipts, toss the garbage and check makeup to make sure covers are secure and the make up is still good. Dump the change in a bank, etc.

Keep up with organizing your purse and you’ll never run the risk of being embarrassed by your purse.
