Presentation of your inventory in a yard sale can mean the difference between shoppers stopping and buying at your yard sale or those same shoppers driving away without buying.
About seven years or so ago, we had a series of yard sales in the same year. it was then that I learned a lot about how to present yard sale merchandise. There were some things that we did that made things sell more quickly. Here is my advice on how to present your yard sale items.
Group your items into categories. For example, all baby stuff should be in one area, not mixed in with other items. Further categorizing items helps, too. If you have a lot of books for example, group them by type, such as best sellers, text books, children’s books, etc.
Clothing should be stacked on tables or hung by type and size. This encourages browsing. When clothes are just tumbled into a bin or worse thrown on a tarp on the ground, they aren’t very attractive.
Make it pleasant and easy for your customers to find what they want. In fact keep things off of the ground with the exception of large or heavy items. No one really wants to squat down to browse.
Think about who will be shopping at your yard sale when you present your stuff. Place a collectible table away from other items, so dealers and hard core collectors can take their time to look at your items without feeling pressured or in the way of the rest of the sale. Many shoppers are moms or families with small kids. Make sure to place toys far away from the road, so families will feel comfortable enough to let their kids look in safety while they browse your stuff themselves. Place some items that might be interesting to their parent nearby.
