Just when you think you can take a break, just when you think you won’t worry so much, something else comes along and smacks you in the back of the head. I had a moment like that over the weekend and our lives are pretty much being turned upside down. I’ve had a constant stomach ache, I’m running around trying to do a million things at once and nothing was being done well. I realized I needed to slow down and take a few minutes for me.
As a single mother I always feel guilty taking time for myself. There is never a shortage of things I should be doing, things that need to be done, things I don’t have the time or energy for. I only have one child; I really don’t know how single mothers with more than one do it.
I thought I would share some of my favorite stress relievers, I love hearing how other people relax so maybe, something I do will inspire someone else to take a little time for herself.
1. A bubble bath. Is there any more perfect time than when the kids are asleep and the house is quiet to take a book, the beverage of your choice and sink into the bubbles up to your nose? Works for me every time.
2. When the weather is nice, I love to sit on my back patio after the sun goes down and just watch the day go by. The worst thing about this is that I always notice all things in the yard that have been neglected.
3. Coffee with my sister or my best friend. At a coffee shop or at home, it doesn’t matter, just some adult time, laughing and of course, talking about the kids.
4. Put a blanket on the grass at night and just look at the stars.
5. Never underestimate the power of a nap.
Those are just a few of my favorites. Make sure you take time for you, it will make you a better Mommy and your children will appreciate it. So, what are your favorite ways to relax?
