Clothing is one of those things that you have to have but also one of those things where it is easy to save money. Whether you consider yourself a true fashionista or wouldn’t know Et Vous from Eddie Bauer, the tips I have for you today will help you save money on clothes.
The stinky test
Clothing wears down quickly when it is washed often. Do you really have to wash or dry clean that your wore for a few hours? If there are no stains on an items of clothing and it doesn’t stink, then consider saving to wear another day. Back before commercial washing machines, people wore their clothing for longer periods of time and often gave clothing a good airing out between wears. Consider investing in a clothing brush, too.
Go naked
Another way to extend the life of your clothing is to wear it less often. When you come home, do you spend the rest of the day/night in your good clothes? Change out of them into less expensive or slightly worn clothing and you will keep your good clothing looking good longer. Around the house, I usually don’t wear shoes. Not only does this keep the floors cleaner, but I haven’t seen my feet wear out, yet.
Hang it all
The clothes dryer is probably the leading culprit when it comes to wearing out your clothing. After all, think about where all of that lint comes from. it comes from your clothing. While the dryer is certainly convenient, it can shrink clothing, fade colors and weaken the fibers. Hanging laundry also saves you money on clothing because while hanging your laundry is free, the dryer can cost around 60 cents of energy each load.
