How to Save on Curtains

I have to confess that we still don’t have curtains on most of our rooms, even having lived here for almost three years. We have curtains in the bedroom and bathrooms for privacy, and the curtains in the dining room that came with the house. Other than that, well, let us just say that since we live in a house set back on a wooded lot, we haven’t really felt a pressing priority.

Still, now I am ready to move forward in this. Of course, I want to be as frugal as possible when it comes to purchasing new curtains. They should be somewhat stylish, practical and of course inexpensive.

To meet these goals, I have been gathering some ideas. Andrea had a great idea for customizing curtains by adding bottom panels in other fabrics. This can make a standard, bargain curtain truly gorgeous and a luxury item. Adding ribbon trim to the bottom of a curtain might also make the curtain more upscale. So these are definitely two ideas to try. I’m not great at sewing, so perhaps fabric tape or fabric glue might work for me.

I came across another idea today that is definitely worth exploring. Instead of spending a lot of money on standard window curtains, I can look into stylish shower curtains. If the idea of a shower curtain seems a bit strange, remember that I am talking about fabric shower curtains, not vinyl shower curtains or liners. Many fabric shower curtains are very attractive, and they come in many different designs.

Finally, another way I could save money on curtains is to shop at a store such as Marshall’s HomeGoods or Overstock.com. Both of these stores sell current inventory at a discounted rate. You can get many great name brand goods this way. I recently got a bunch of new discounted table linens this way.
