There is nothing spookier on Halloween than the prices of all of the stuff on your list. Here are some of the common Halloween expenses along with some strategies to help you save money.
Hayrides and Haunted Houses
Visiting your local hayride, haunted house or corn maze can be a lot of fun. If you have a larger family like mine, though, the cost of entrance can be a little daunting. To save money, check for coupons and discount days. You may be able to find out about these on the event website or through local businesses. Our favorite pizza place, for example, has brochures on the counter for local attractions, and these brochures often contain coupons to clip.
Halloween Costumes
It used to be that homemade costumes were the way to save money, but sometimes store bought ones can be cheaper, especially if you can buy them the year before and store them. Of course, kids can change their minds about what they want to be, can grow out of two sizes in one year, etc. If you find yourself needing new costumes, consider holding a costume swap with your other friends who have kid. Everyone should make out at the cost of free.
You can also combine elements of various costume pieces and create your own look? How about a clown dinosaur or Buzz Lightyear as a grandpa with a beard? Most creative costume will go to you for sure.
Halloween Candy
I always seem to buy more candy than we ever use. I’m so afraid of running out, but I have to remind myself that I need to tone it down. There is one way to save–tone down the amount.
Fortunately, around Halloween, a lot of candy goes on sale. Hunt down grocery coupons and combine them with the sales to get rock bottom candy prices. National chain drugstores, such as CVS and Walgreens are especially generous with their candy promotions.
