How to Set Boundaries with Fortnite

Do your kids play Fortnite? Many parents are finding it difficult to get their kids to put down the controller and pick up their homework. It is possible for parents to set effective boundaries with Fortnite. In order to do that, it helps to learn some things about the game.

Fortnite is a multi-player game apocalyptic survival video game. Fortnite: Battle Royale is free to play. The goal of the game is to stay alive longer than all the other players. This can be done as an individual or as part of a team.

The game begins with 100 players. Each game lasts until there is only one player remaining. It lasts as long as it lasts.

Parents who want to set boundaries on video games often impose a set time limit. That’s not going to work with Fortnite. There’s no way to know ahead of time when a game will end.

Parents are going to face pushback if they demand their kid suddenly abandon their teammates and leave the game. Players who leave a game that is in-progress could make their teammates have a lower chance of winning. Do that often enough, and your kid is going to struggle to maintain friendships.

What can parents do to set boundaries with Fortnite? Try some of these ideas:

Take away the controller.

On Monday morning, parents can collect the video game controllers and hide them. Kids can earn some Fortnite playtime after proving that they have completed all of their homework. Parents can check the homework before handing back the controllers.

Use Fortnite rewards as motivation.

Fortnite has an in-game currency called V-Bucks. The currency can be spent by players on character skins (which give their characters a different look). V-Bucks can be purchased with real-world currency. Parents can reward their kids with V-Bucks for getting a good grade on a test or doing their chores. Kids now have motivation to stop playing long enough to take care of their responsibilities.

Play Fortnite with your kids.

Parents and kids can bond by playing video games together. Parents do not have to be good at Fortnite in order to play it. Perplexed parents can watch their child play the game and ask questions about what’s going on. When the game ends, parents can choose to allow one more game, or remind their kid that it is bedtime.
