A camping tent is an investment, and if you care for it properly it can last for many, many years. Here are some things that you can do to take care of your camping tent and keep it in like new condition.
When Using Your Tent…
The best thing that you can do for your tent is to take some extra care of it when it is actually in use. One of the biggest ways a tent can get damaged is by the rocks, sticks, pine cones and anything else sharp that might be in the natural environment. To avoid this kinds of damage, just make sure that the camp site is clear of any rocks or debris before you set up the tent.
You also want to avoid setting up your tent under a tree, not just to protect the tent but to protect yourself as well. Falling branches and tree limbs can be dangerous.
Avoid walking around in your tent with heavy shoes on. Instead, use slippers, socks or go barefoot when you enter your tent.
To avoid tripping over your tent and damaging it or hurting yourself, wrap glow in the dark tape around the tent stakes to make them easier to see in the dark.
When Storing Your Tent…
Proper storage of your tent can really extend the life of it. Always clean your tent before you store it but shaking off loose debris and clean any spots using a brush, some water and some mild detergent. Make sure you attack any signs of mildew right away with a strong cleaner, such as Lysol.
Store the stakes for the tent, protected in and old pillow case or canvas bag, if your tent didn’t come with a bag for the stakes. This will ensure that the stakes don’t poke or scratch at the tent and possibly put holes in it.
