Do you want to earn some money selling something on Craigslist? If so, you will need an eye catching post that will have your inbox filled with offers. Here are some tips that you can use to create a winning Craigslist ad.
First, Do Your Research
Because shoppers are looking for a bargain on Craigslist, you’ll need to make sure that you are priced correctly. If your item is the most expensive out of similar or the same item, your post will be passed over. Your price is evident right at the listing level before anyone even clicks your ad. At one time there was a trend to put $1 as the price on everything as a false price, but buyers have caught on to that, and the $1 price can actually harm your ad.
If you can post the lowest price out there, your ad will get some good attention. In fact, you might wind up in a price war that actually gets you more than you are asking on your item. For example, I posted a popular toy that normally sells for $300 new and $95-$150 used on Craigslist. Since I got a good deal on this toy originally, I was able to post a price of $40. It is a price that stands out and made my ad really get a lot of attention.
Firm Price or Not?
Should you mention that your price is firm? While many people will appreciate having a firm price listed on Craigslist so they know where they stand, the majority of shoppers will want to haggle and will ask for a lower price anyway. I would avoid using the word firm, unless your price is already rock bottom. Build in a little wiggle room in your price, so when a buyer asks for something less you have the ability to haggle.
