Huckabee Joins Fox and Cusack Joins Team Obama

If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em.

That could be Mike Huckabee’s new mantra. The former Republican presidential hopeful plans to join the profession that he infamously slammed while serving as governor of Arkansas.

Huckabee announced that he has accepted a new job at Fox News Channel as a political commentator. The ordained Baptist preacher turned politico will reportedly aid Fox as it navigates through the muddy waters of the 2008 presidential elections.

The former governor dropped out of the presidential race in March, after John McCain won enough delegates to clinch the Republican nomination.

“I hope to bring the unique perspective from ‘inside the dragon’s belly’ as well as to try and speak for the millions of hardworking middle-class Americans who really do feel that their voices are not being heard,” Huckabee said in a statement last week. “I saw that on the campaign trail and continue to see as I speak to groups of all kinds around the country as well as campaign for other candidates.”

I wonder if Fox news anchors plan to quiz Huckabee on the new political ads actor John Cusack is starring in?

The 30-second ads are causing quite a stir among political types, namely because they take a direct and swift swipe at presidential hopeful McCain.

In the on-air spot the actor accuses McCain of being a clone of President George W. Bush who would continue policies the actor says benefit war profiteers.

“I know my opinion doesn’t matter more than anyone else’s and I just make films,” Cusack told reporters last week. “But I do feel you have to speak out, and that’s what I’m doing.”

The ads are currently running on the Bravo cable channel and in Washington, D.C., on CNN, MSNBC and Comedy Central. Viewers there are seeing Cusack offer a “pop quiz” to voters, asking them among other things: “Who supports keeping our troops in harm’s way in Iraq but not the bipartisan G.I. bill of rights to support them when they return home?”

McCain and Bush both do, Cusack says, adding, “Bet you can’t tell them apart.”

While he doesn’t mention it in the ads Cusack has made no secret that he supports Democrat Barack Obama.

Have you seen Cusack’s commercial?
