Let me preface this by saying Happy 4th of July to all our American readers and visitors. For everyone else, good morning. Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for a fitness program, why? Because Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for anything. It’s hump day. It’s the middle of the week and that means you are either still caught up in the doldrums of the Monday lag or your eye is firmly on Friday and you don’t want to think about today.
Keep Your Fitness Thoughts on Today
You need to practice focusing on your day to day work and on where you are – not where you’ve been or where you want to go. You want to focus on today. You want to focus on what you can do for yourself today. Can you get out for a walk? Great. Can you do your weight training program? Great.
The idea is not to be so caught up on the Monday grind or the Friday party that you can’t do what you need to do today. For many Americans, today is not about exercise, however – it’s celebrating the birth of our nation. It’s also about celebrating ourselves as Americans – fitness is a genuine way to celebrate the idea of a fit nation, of fit people and of fitness in general.
So while you attend your barbecues, your family gatherings, your picnics on the beach or in the park – take a walk, celebrate the sights and the sounds of America. Celebrating life and liberty can take on many different forms. You can celebrate in the gym or outside. You can celebrate alone or with family and friends. So today, walk, run, dance, workout or just play a round of football, basketball or some other active sport and celebrate the birth of our nation, savor your liberties and have a Happy, Happy 4th of July.
