Don’t forget the kids this Valentine’s Day. If you plan to celebrate Love Day with your sweetie by dining at a romantic restaurant at sunset, then spend the afternoon making the holiday fun for your children.
If you have young children your job won’t be too hard, as preschoolers enjoy just about any activity which involves parental participation… and chocolate. A favorite game around our house is heart scavenger hunt.
To play, have your older children help you decorate a dozen or so construction paper hearts cut into various sizes. Use buttons, stickers, glitter glue, sequins, markers and crayons to embellish the paper hearts. Next, collect all of the hearts and hide them around the house. Before you have the kids scatter around to find the hearts make a list of clues. Sample clues include: Find the red heart with the yellow button smiley face” or “Find the green L-O-V-E heart with purple glitter.”
The winner gets candy, a stuffed animal, or some other Valentine’s Day-themed gift. The other participants can share the following sweet treat:
CHOCOLATE MINT ICE CREAM PIE
Ingredients:
1/2 cup milk
1 package (3.4-ounce) chocolate JELL-O instant pudding
1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened
1 pre-made chocolate cookie pie crust
1 cup crushed peppermint hard candies
1 container of Cool Whip
1 chocolate bar
Directions:
Mix milk with instant pudding.
Add ice cream to pudding and mix together until creamy.
Gently fold in peppermint candy.
Pour mixture into pie shell and let set in refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours.
Before serving, top with Cool Whip and use a vegetable peeler to make chocolate shavings on top with chocolate bar.
