Tis the season to be shopping for back-to-school items, harvesting tomatoes and… taking advantage of great hurricane season travel deals. Yes, hurricane season is in full swing and the savings on travel to tropical locations are abundant. Travel experts will tell you there are two major advantages to taking a vacation during the hurricane season: major discounts and fewer crowds.
Of course, timing is everything. From now through the end of October you’ll save big time on travel to the Caribbean, parts of Mexico and Florida. What’s more, with school back in session you’ll experience the added bonus of sprawling out on empty beaches and have an easier time securing restaurant reservations, which isn’t always the case during the height of the summer travel season.
Discounts on hotels range between 40 to 70 percent. For example, a deluxe ocean view at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún is $259 a night in August. That is an unbelievable deal considering in mid-December, the rate for the same room jumps to $869. Another true travel steal: at the One & Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, a garden view room normally goes for $750, but during hurricane season prices for the same room start at $490.
If you have ever wanted to sail the high seas, but couldn’t find a way to fit it into your family budget now is the time to cruise. Carnival Cruises (which caters to families) is offering a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami with a two-category upgrade for just $429. The offer ends October 20th. If you live on the other side of the country, Carnival is offering a cruise to the Mexican Riviera from Long Beach, California for just $539. The offer ends September 23rd.
The prices may be falling on travel to these tropical locations, but you have to consider that rain may be dropping as well (hence the low prices). But, if you are willing to take the chance that Mother Nature won’t unleash her fury on your resort I wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage of these great hurricane travel deals.
