Hurricane Wedding Planning

Are you planning a wedding this summer? While the summer time may be the most popular time for weddings and of course, the honeymoons that follow – it’s worth mentioning for couples planning a tropical honeymoon destination that summer time is also hurricane season.

Among the most popular destinations for weddings and honeymoons include Florida and the Bahamas. So if you are planning a wedding, a honeymoon or both in these areas, you need to take hurricane wedding planning into account – especially after some of the hurricanes we have seen over the last few years.

You don’t have to cancel your wedding plans just because it’s hurricane season. You just need to make sure you incorporate measures that take into account severe weather changes and tropical depressions so that your wedding and honeymoon plans can go forward despite the weather.

Things To Consider

It’s important to consider the following when you are doing your wedding planning. The white sandy beaches are an unforgettable location to host your wedding. You and your future spouse can look forward to holding hands as the sun sets in a fiery spectacular in the western sky and the cool, evening tropical breezes brush over you. This is among the most picturesque and beautiful of wedding scenarios, but a tropical depression, hurricane and more can turn this dream wedding setting into a nightmare.

So, here is what you need to take into account when planning your wedding to ask about contingencies in your area of choice. Is your wedding being held it is considered an evacuation zone? What will a delay cost if a storm occurs? Do they offer a refund for having to cancel or relocate the wedding entirely? What happens if the hotel you were planning for the honeymoon retreat is damaged or razed during the hurricane?

If they aren’t evacuated, do they have backup generators on hand? What about the vendors you have scheduled from the florist to the baker to the band? What are their contingency plans for bad weather? You and your guests will be concerned with your belongings and the personal safety of family members – so will the businesses you are dealing with.

Back Up Plans

It’s equally important to recognize if your wedding or honeymoon venue is a place where evacuees might be taken and what effect everything can have on your travel plans. Thousands of weddings and honeymoons take place in hurricane zones every year. In fact, I was married at Disney World and had our honeymoon there during hurricane season. It’s not like planning to host your ceremony or event during that season is seeking a date with destiny – it’s just a point of making yourself aware.

We purchased travel insurance and verified with our wedding planner that if the worst struck, we could and would reschedule our wedding. While it’s not ideal to reschedule your wedding date and all your plans, it’s still better than giving up your wedding altogether. Check with out the great tips and suggestions in the Travel blog about travel and travel insurance. Have you ever experienced a wedding reschedule because of foul weather?
