The other night, my husband informed me that a friend of his is training to be a personal trainer. Out of curiosity, I asked what their rates were. After all, a new trainer with no experience is likely to be not as expensive as one with loads of success stories under their belt.
Then I thought about it…
I haven’t been able to lose weight lately but that is not because I haven’t been eating right or exercising (those things that a personal trainer handles). My problem is that I’m not getting any sleep at night because the kids keep waking up. And who do the kids call for when they wake up in the middle of the night? You guessed it – Mama. So when the kids wake up, I wake up. Unfortunately they can’t seem to coordinate their napping schedules so that Mama can catch a wink once in a while.
I’m eating right. Goodness knows I get plenty of exercise with the kids all day. I know exactly what I need to do. The problem is not that I don’t know what to do or how to do it. The problem is that my body, when it doesn’t get enough sleep, will not respond to any weight loss efforts whatsoever. This phenomenon is the same thing that type II diabetics and the severely obese experience when they try to lose weight. Their bodies just don’t respond. Luckily, all I need to get a response is a few good nights’ sleep.
So, I told my husband that as nice as it might be to have a personal trainer, what I really need at this point is somebody to take care of my kids at night so I can actually get some decent sleep.
If you’re trying to lose weight but have babies waking up in the middle of the night, don’t lose hope and don’t be too hard on yourself. Once you start sleeping through the night, the pounds will start falling off.
