I Don’t Read Because — I Can’t Find Anything I Like

Now, there’s a copout excuse if I’ve ever heard one. Do you know how many books are published each year, in every genre under the sun? Maybe you like vampire detective chick-lit. I’m not lying to you – I found a blog today written by a woman who writes this very genre. Perhaps you like nonfiction books about insects that only live on rosebushes. Or drama stories about little old women in nursing homes. No matter what floats your boat, there are books out there for you.

Your first best tool in finding them will be the Internet. Go online and type in whatever it is you’re looking for. Within seconds, you will have pages and pages of suggestions at your fingertips. As you scroll through, you’ll be able to find authors who match your own personal style. Many of them have “Buy It Now” links on their sites and you can order books directly from them, often autographed, if that appeals to you. You can also go to Amazon.com and see if the book is on sale there. Sometimes you can get a used copy at a fraction of the price, if you don’t mind some wear and tear. Of course, a book is used the minute you open it up, so having a book that’s “used” really isn’t a bad thing.

Also, go to your local library. I love libraries almost to the point of insanity. You will be able to find many of the books you found online, and many more, as well. Plus, the library has a tremendous resource you won’t find anywhere else – a librarian. Ask him/her for recommendations. He/she will not only be able to tell you what books would be good to try, but where to find them on the shelves.

Don’t give up on reading just because you haven’t found something that interests you. Keep trying and before long, you’ll have your nose buried in a book, and you’ll love every minute of it.
