I Made a Stocking Hanger Today

Yesterday, I was trying to figure out what to do with the Christmas stockings. We don’t have a fireplace, and I didn’t know where to hang them. I made a stocking hanger from a coat rack once, but I wanted something different, since I bought new stockings this year.

We put our names on them with glue and glitter. They turned out nice and it was a fun family project. So, we had to have something new to go with our new stockings.

I had a scrap piece of 4” x 4” wood about 30” long and I thought it would be heavy enough to hold the stockings up, which is a bit of a challenge when there are six of them. I planned to spray paint the wood but then decided I didn’t want to wait for it to dry. I thought of using it “as is” or using craft paint and then something caught my eye. I had an extra large gift bag made of red foil that I had torn earlier. I cut it down one side and along the bottom then laid it out flat, and it was the perfect size to wrap the wood.

I wrapped the wood like a gift, screwed in large mug hooks and perched it on top of the entertainment center. It looks cute with the stockings hanging from it and the kids think it’s pretty cool. The stockings are now the first thing you see when you enter the front door.

Now, I just hope Santa doesn’t fill them too full. I might need to add something to the stocking hanger to weight it, because he really likes to stuff stockings. Still, it’s an idea using things we already had and it only took a few minutes to make. I love projects like this. Do you have any simple or last minute projects that you’d like to share?
