I Scream

left

You will too after reading about a select group of upscale New York parents who thinks the world begins and ends in their little corner of Brooklyn.

Yes, Park Slope parents are making national headlines again for yet another insanely absurd interpretation of one of life’s most basic rites of passages.

I guess that’s what happens when you have big bucks and don’t have to take four modes of public transportation to three different part-time jobs that barely help you keep a roof over your kids’ heads and food on the table.

Rich people problems; where do I sign-up for those?

The latest dilemma plaguing the trendy and tres affluent Brooklyn neighborhood is rooted in a time-honored tradition: buying ice cream from a truck.

According to the New York Post, overprotective Park Slope parents want to ban ice cream vendors from setting up their carts and trucks at neighborhood parks, so as to not upset their kids.

“Along with the first truly beautiful day of the year, my son and I had our first ruined day at the playground,” one Park Slope mom told the paper. “Two different people came into the actual playground with ice cream/Italian ice push carts. I was able to avoid it for a little while but eventually I left with a crying 4-year-old.”

Meanwhile, another irate mother whined: “I should not have to fight with my children every warm day on the playground just so someone can make a living! I too was at the 9th Street Playground on Monday, and one of the vendors just handed my 4-year-old an ice cream cone. I was furious.”

Oh, boo-hoo.

Are you kidding me?

These parents want to ban ice cream vendors from selling frozen novelties at public parks just because they can’t handle saying “no” to their kids?

Grow up.

I say “no” to my kid hundreds of times a day and am forced to deal with her wrath.

Guess what?

Despite her many meltdowns, we’re both still alive, and slowly but surely she is learning the fine art of delayed gratification and outright denial.

Rather than use the opportunity to teach their children that they can’t always get what they want when they want it, Park Slope parents would rather get rid of the temptation.

Let’s ban ice cream vendors from public parks, so we don’t have to deal our kids’ temper tantrums when we deny them a frozen confection.

How mature.
