I Want My Mummy!

left

Where do mummies go for a swim? In the Dead Sea.

Why couldn’t the mummy come outside? Because he was all wrapped up.

What is a Mummy’s favorite type of music? Wrap.

Why were ancient Egyptian children confused? Because their daddies were mummies.

When you live with an 8-year-old, this is the type of entertainment you are treated to in the days leading up to Halloween.

My daughter’s third grade class is celebrating the holiday with mummies, spiders and bats, and as a room mom, it’s my job to create party snacks to enhance the creepy theme.

How am I going to make an edible mummy?

Fortunately, Weelicious.com came to the rescue with some simple kid-friendly recipes. If you are looking to add some freaky fun to your Halloween party buffet try these:

MUMMY DOGS

Ingredients:

8 veggie, turkey or beef dogs

1 can of refrigerated pizza dough

Ketchup or mustard

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Line a cookie sheet with foil and lightly grease with cooking spray.

Cut the pizza dough into 8 even strips.

Stretch each piece of the pizza dough until it’s about 4 times the length of the hot dog.

Starting at the top, wrap the pizza dough around the hot dog until it’s completely covered allowing a small space for the face.

Place the wrapped hot dogs on the cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

When the hot dogs are cool, dot the ketchup and/or mustard on with a toothpick to make the mummies’ eyes.

MUMMY PIZZAS

Ingredients:

2 English muffins, cut in half

8 teaspoons pizza sauce

2 mozzarella cheese sticks

3 green olives with pimentos

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Place the English muffin halves on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes.

Remove muffins from oven and spread 2 teaspoons of the pizza sauce onto each English muffin half.

Peel the mozzarella sticks into strings and arrange them on top of each English muffin.

Slice the green olives into 1/4 inch thick rings and place them on top of the cheese to create eyes.

Bake for 3 more minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Serve warm.
