Well this does not happen too often, but I was wrong they did not do my mother-in-law’s birthday last weekend like I thought they would. They called to do it this coming Saturday, normally that would be great but there are a couple of things wrong. First my daughter Rebecca is now doing cheering for the local YMCA and has her first game on Saturday and we cannot be in two places at once. The second reason is that we still have had no contact with my brother or sister-in-law. The last time they spoke to anyone in our family was mid-November when they said they were cutting us out of their holidays.
Now, in case you don’t remember back in November my sister and brother-in-law said that because our kids wanted to do a Christmas with just the Grandparents and then do them separately that they would be cutting us out of their holidays. My sister in law went onto say that the only person in our family she wants a relationship with is my husband. So I guess that means she does not want one with me or our kids. I am fine with that believe me it is so much better for me but I do feel bad for my husband and the kids. My husband refuses to participate if they won’t have anything to do with his wife or his kids.
In all fairness to my husband he has texted both and has had no response at all from them. I took it upon myself to email my sister in law last week to see if she thought she owed our family an apology for how they treated us during the holidays; her reply was short and to the point “NO”. I replied back that I was surprised by her replay and wanted to know how she saw the future of our relationship between our families. I did tell her we would not be doing Christmas Eve with them again because I do not think her or her brother should get to decide how my children celebrate their Christmas with the Grandparents.
Well my husband tried to explain this to my father in law as a reason why we would not be attending the birthday lunch. It is also for my sister in laws husband as well and why would we want to be around people who do not want to acknowledge us or have anything to do with us? Needless to say that conversation did not go over well. My father in law acts like it is disrespectful for us not to be there but we would be so uncomfortable there that it would affect her celebration and so we are staying home out of respect for her. I doubt they will see it that way.
