Do you have a pedometer? This is one electronic device that I recommend everyone have. You can easily keep track of how many steps you take in a day. And that is very beneficial to your health.
The recommended number of steps that we should be taking each day is 10,000. When you have a device that measures this, it motivates you to set goals. And you have a greater likelihood of walking more when you have a pedometer.
Taking 10,000 steps a day can increase your energy, promote weight loss and just make you feel better all around. And if you don’t want to invest the money in a pedometer, you can now download a pedometer app on your smart phone.
It is the first free app being offered by a health insurer (Independence Blue Cross), called the “IBX Healthy Steps Pedometer”. You can download this from the Apple App Store if you have an iPhone and from the Android Marketplace if you have a Droid/Android phone.
But this pedometer does more than just calculate your steps. It helps you track your workouts, monitor your fitness level and set health goals.
I really love the idea of having this type of app on my phone, since my phone is always attached to me. If you are anything like me, you understand.
I downloaded this app and the first thing you do is customize it. You input your gender, height, weight, exercise type (running or walking), and can set notifications based on your distance or time.
It is a GPS-enabled map so it can follow your location. If you want, you can even share your information with friends using text messaging, Twitter and Facebook (no thank you, I will keep this to myself).
I’m pretty pleased with this app, but best of all…it’s free. Do you use a pedometer? What benefits have you seen in using one?
