Ideas for Ceilings

Is there something about your room that just doesn’t feel finished? Or maybe you want a quick update that won’t break the bank or take up a lot of your time. Why not try one of the following ideas to improve the ceiling in your room.

1. Add a celling medallion

Installing a ceiling medallion is quick, easy and inexpensive. A ceiling medallion is usually installed underneath a light fixture, from an in-ceiling light to a hanging chandelier. Expect to pay between $25 and $85 in the home improvement store for a standard plastic or foam medallion. Plaster medallions are made, also, but their expensive and difficult installation usually mean that they are used primarily for restoration purposes.

2. Add pressed-tin panels

Pressed tin panels, also known as a “tin ceiling” are making a big comeback to homes. They can enhance and complement older homes and homes with high ceilings, giving the room an elegant or a folksy look, depending on the style and the application of the panels. For a modern touch, try using them in unexpected places, such as the bathroom or on a porch. This is where the current trend seems to be going. Panels can be painted with an oil-based paint, if you like. Make sure the room also has carpet or other furnishings that will absorb sound, since the panels tend to reverberate it.

3. Wallpaper the ceiling

Applying wallpaper to the ceiling is another new trend that has been happening for a few years. Applying wallpaper to the ceiling can be tricky, but it can also create a very dramatic setting. The versatility of wallpaper can accommodate all types of ceilings, from flat ceilings to sloped ceiling to irregularly shaped ceilings with angles. Prices for wallpaper can range from $3 per roll all the way up to $200 per roll.
