I wish that I could honestly say that my home business is being built on hard work, determination and talent–but the truth is, there are plenty of days when I think my home business efforts are really held up with bailing twine, sealing wax, and coffee. Okay, just the coffee–strong, hot, black and unending…
The strange thing about my personal development is that I didn’t used to be a coffee drinker. For the first thirty years of my life, I abhorred the stuff and only drank tea or cocoa. Then, right about the time I became a single parent, working full time and going to school full time too to finish up my undergraduate degree, a coworker turned me on to “the mocha” and it wasn’t long before I was drinking several cups of strong, black coffee a day.
I am not a coffee addict–one of those people who has to have it every day–and I can get by quite easily without it, IF I don’t have anything I need to do. On days when work and life just has to happen at a clipping speed, my coffee pot is gurgling away in the kitchen.
If it wasn’t for coffee, I don’t imagine I would be able to get up before the sun to get myself to my desk, or hold it together during those mid-morning dips when I have to get to my second job, or even stay up past the point of sanity to continue writing away. Yes, I even confess that I drink the evening cups of coffee sometimes and then fall asleep quite easily when I finally let myself.
I’ve already decided that if anyone every asks me what is the “secret to my success” (granted, that I ever actually achieve success), I am going to have to honestly answer: coffee.
