If You Want to Save Money, Get Snowed In!

Whenever their is a big snowstorm predicted, people rush out to the grocery store to make sure that they have enough supplies in case they can’t get out for a few days. The shelves that once contained plenty of milk, eggs and bread become bare, as shoppers snatch up these staples. They don’t want to find themselves without food.

Once people are actually snowed in, they have to make sue with whatever they have in the house for meals, be that a full turkey dinner or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. There is no way to go out to a restaurant or to pick up something for dinner at the store.

Frugal people can learn from the phenomena of getting snowed in. If you want to save money, pretend that you are or soon will be snowed in. How does this work?

Well, first of all, make sure that you have plenty of staples in your pantry. Buy these staples in bulk and on sale. Include things such as canned and frozen food and powdered milk.

Then, the next time you fell as though you have to run out to the store again, pretend that you can’t. You’ll have to make due with whatever you have. Are you out of bread? You’ll have to make some from scratch, put a couple of quick biscuits together or make due with crackers. Getting low on milk? Drink water or mix your milk with powdered milk. You don’t have anything for dinner? Take a close look at your pantry, freezer and fridge and see if you can come up with a balanced meal from the items you already have. You just might be surprised at what you can create.

By being snowed in, you get to be creative and use what you have. This will reduce your waste, make you come up with low cost meals, avoid unnecessary trips to the store or restaurant and save you money.
