I’ll Be Staying Home on Black Friday

I have been sufficiently barraged by advertisements and am well aware of the upcoming sales on Black Friday. Sure, the thought of $3.00 toasters and blender from Target, and sweater dresses from Kohl’s are very appealing, I am not swayed enough to leave my home on Black Friday.

Sure, there will be lots of sales that I won’t be able to get my hands on later, but the chance of actually being able to get my hands on those items is slim to none.

“There are some caveats. Included in the fine print amongst the Black Friday advertisements and circulars is often a number of conditions. The best deals are commonly found only in limited quantities. The time you need to be at the store to receive the deal is also limited. If you need to be at two different stores at 5:00 am or earlier to line up before the doors open, you need to choose. Many of the doorbusters are only available in person, as well.” (Consumerism Commentary)

In addition to having to risk life and limb to get the best deals in the Black Friday circulars, you will have to lose precious sleep, deal with an unreasonable amount of traffic, and you can also expect to have a bad shopping experience, due to crowds and stress.

I am not alone in my aversion, “The whole Black Friday thing just doesn’t work for me. The thought of waking up in the middle of the night to stand in line at a big box store to purchase someone’s idea of a bargain is painful, at best. Needless to say, I’ll be avoiding Black Friday like the plague, once again this year.” Technobabble

Interestingly enough, I am not the only families.com blogger avoiding Black Friday. Last year frugal blogger Mary Ann Romans gave “Ten reasons I Won’t Be Going Shopping on Black Friday”.

Besides, I don’t need overrated sales to give Christmas gifts. There are tons of frugal gift ideas, and then there is always cash which will buy your recipient twice as much after the holidays.
