Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Today is a day to be grateful so I’m going to stop and count my blessings. It’s so easy to get caught up in the cycle of kicking the dirt because of all you don’t have as a single parent, it’s time to be thankful for what we do have.
I’m thankful first and foremost for the opportunity to be Hailey’s mother, whether married or single, being her mother is the single best thing that has ever happened to me.
I’m especially thankful that my daughter and I are both healthy. It’s easy to take our health from granted but every day I hear of someone who is struggling with a health issue.
I’m thankful that I am able to support the two of us. We have a nice home, plenty of food, clothes to wear, cars to drive and a million other things that we want. Not only are our basic needs taken care of but most of our wants are as well. Many people will be cold, hungry and alone on Thanksgiving, it will be just another day to survive for them.
I’m so thankful for my family and friends. Without them it would have been impossible for Hailey and I to thrive as a single parent family. Their love and support through good times and bad has made all the difference.
I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world through my writing, thanks to the internet. It truly is amazing the people you meet and the things you learn. It’s especially interesting to learn about different traditions and child rearing philosophies.
So for everyone reading this, thank you. I’m grateful to have an audience for the words that fall out of my head, and for those of you who blog here at Families.com, thank you, I learn something from you every day.
Before you stretch out on the couch and fall asleep from too much turkey, remember to be thankful, we have so much. It really is a privilege to live in this country.
