Can you believe that it is already time to start stocking up on school supplies? As soon as that calendar hit August 1st, the sales have started. Are you taking advantage of them? Do you have some good ideas for all of those cheap or free supplies? I do!
We have a number of things coming up in August and September, so I really wanted to get all of the back to school stuff out of the way as early as possible. My son already has a backpack from previous years, and we purchased one for my daughter, a soon-to-be kindergartner, at the end of the previous season.
I printed out the list of supplies that they would need and then shopped from last year’s stockpile. My son already had some supplies leftover from the previous year, such as a pair of scissors, a ruler and his pencil bag, so a quick clean up was all that was needed. I am not one to believe in getting spanking new supplies each year, if we have good working ones already.
That left only a few supplies on each list. We hit two stores, Staples and Target. They both had great deals going. I also picked up more than we needed. Why? Well, for the following reasons.
Extra crayons and markers could be used at home, and at this point, I pretty much know how much we will go through. Also, during the years, certain supplies need to be replaced, such as new pencils, new pens and new crayons.
Finally, our church collects supplies on two occasions. During the summer, we collect supplies for a ministry known as City Team, who supplies underprivileged children with the needed supplies. Then during Christmas holiday, we send filled shoe boxes overseas. School supplies are a big hit for these gifts. Another idea for extra supplies include donating them to your school or to a local shelter.
Happy school shopping.
